FBI Reveals Tumbler Ridge Shooter’s Arsenal: Includes ‘SKS’ Rifle Previously Seized by RCMP

A recently disclosed FBI complaint sheds light on the alleged conspiracy between a suspect in Washington state and the Tumbler Ridge mass shooter. The complaint reveals details about the weapons possibly used in the tragic attack and sheds light on how the teenage perpetrator may have acquired them.

According to the FBI agent’s sworn statement in Seattle, James Bryant faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder in a foreign country. Bryant disclosed to authorities that Jesse Van Rootselaar had stolen firearms and ammunition from her family’s gun safe, hiding them in her room in preparation for the planned mass shooting.

Unverified claims in the complaint suggest that Van Rootselaar, aged 18, had persuaded someone to buy ammunition on her behalf and that one of the weapons she intended to use had been previously confiscated by the RCMP.

Van Rootselaar, who tragically took the lives of eight individuals on February 10, including family members and students at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, ended her own life at the school.

Assistant RCMP Commissioner Elija Rain noted that substantial progress has been made in the ongoing criminal investigation despite limited information releases due to ensuring the integrity of investigative efforts.

The FBI complaint details Van Rootselaar’s communication with Bryant on Discord, mentioning possession of firearm accessories and a device for an SKS rifle, possibly a machine-gun conversion device.

Bryant allegedly informed the FBI that Van Rootselaar used some of these items during the Tumbler Ridge shooting. A photo in the complaint depicts Van Rootselaar holding a rifle with a suppressor adorned in the transgender Pride flag colors.

Van Rootselaar, who identified as transgender, had discussions with Bryant about the firearms used in the attack, expressing concerns about the alignment of the sights on the SKS rifle and mentioning the use of a Canuck-branded shotgun.

The FBI revealed that Van Rootselaar made plans regarding the weaponry to be used in the attack, indicating a determination to proceed despite potential sight alignment issues.

The case continues to unfold, raising important questions about gun violence, conspiracy, and the tragic realities of mass shootings.
