The Parti Québécois Seeks Recount in Close Montreal South Shore Race
The Parti Québécois party has officially requested a judicial recount in the Vachon riding, as confirmed by CityNews. The closely contested election saw Quebec Liberal Party candidate Affine Lwalalika emerge victorious over PQ’s Stephan Fogaing by a narrow margin of just 10 votes in the Montreal South Shore area, based on preliminary results displayed on the Élections Québec website.
Lwalalika secured 10,063 votes, representing 27.52% of all valid ballots cast, while Fogaing trailed closely with 10,053 votes, making up 27.50% of the total votes.
In accordance with Quebec’s electoral regulations, a request for a judicial recount can be lodged with the Court of Québec within four days of the election if the second-place candidate falls short by one-thousandth of the total votes cast.
The Vachon riding, previously represented by former CAQ Deputy Premier Ian Lafrenière, witnessed a significant shift in this election as Lafrenière finished in third place with 7,614 votes.
