Passengers on a recent flight in Côte-Nord took quick action to subdue a man attempting to breach the cockpit on Wednesday evening. The situation prompted an emergency landing at La Romaine airport, where law enforcement officials from the Sûreté du Québec apprehended the suspect.
According to Marc Tessier, the SQ spokesperson, no injuries were reported, but the incident left several individuals in a state of shock.
The flight, originally bound for Sept-Îles with a stop in La Romaine, had to divert its course shortly after takeoff following the layover. Tessier noted, “Approximately ten minutes into the flight, the decision was made to return to La Romaine for a landing.”
Around 5 p.m., authorities were alerted that passengers had managed to restrain an individual experiencing a crisis on the aircraft. The suspect, a man in his 30s, allegedly attempted to breach the cockpit door and caused damage to the toilet door during the incident.
The man was later taken to a hospital for evaluation, with reports indicating that his condition is stable.
Among the 13 passengers and three crew members onboard — two pilots and a flight attendant — everyone managed to safely board an alternate flight to Sept-Îles following the ordeal.
An ongoing investigation will determine if any charges will be filed against the individual in question.
