“Alert: Popular Smoked Ham Recalled in Quebec Due to Listeria Risk”

Boucherie Viau Inc. Recalls Smoked Ham Over Listeria Concerns

Boucherie Viau Inc. has issued a recall for its smoked cooked ham after concerns arose regarding the potential presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

The affected smoked ham was sold in refrigerated conditions at various establishments in Montreal and the Montérégie region.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ), Boucherie Viau Inc. has identified the recalled product as regular smoked cooked ham available in different sizes. The product can be identified by its CUP number 646437754446 and Lot No. 100926JCFR, with a best-before date of October 26, 2026.

A cautionary statement emphasized that despite not showing any signs of spoilage or unusual odors, the ham could potentially be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Consuming such contaminated food can lead to listeriosis, a serious foodborne illness characterized by symptoms like fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Vulnerable populations, including pregnant women and their unborn children, older adults, children, and individuals with weakened immune systems, are particularly at risk, officials warned.

It is advised that individuals experiencing symptoms possibly linked to consuming the recalled product seek advice from a healthcare professional promptly.

As of now, the Ministry reports no instances of illness associated with the consumption of the affected product.
