Late on a Sunday night in Vancouver’s vibrant Chinatown area, chaos unfolded as a car suddenly burst into flames. The cause? A dangerous combination of gas vapour and a lit cigarette inside the vehicle.
According to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), the incident was triggered when a man, who had been storing multiple jerry cans filled with gas in his car, decided to light up a cigarette. What followed was a rapid escalation of events, culminating in the car being engulfed in flames. Miraculously, the 38-year-old man managed to escape the vehicle, albeit with minor burns, before being rushed to the hospital by BC Emergency Health Services.
The destructive power of the fire didn’t stop there, as two nearby cars also fell victim to the intense flames. Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services conducted a thorough investigation, ultimately deeming the fire to be accidental.
