Davis Alexander became the star of the show as he surpassed 5,000 passing yards for the season, leading the Montreal Alouettes to a resounding 44-24 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the CFL’s Thanksgiving Day Classic on Monday.
Making history, Alexander joined the elite ranks of Anthony Calvillo as one of the few quarterbacks in Alouettes history to achieve the 5,000-yard milestone. The 27-year-old quarterback from Gig Harbor, Wash., put on a dazzling display, throwing for five touchdowns, 403 passing yards, and rushing for 40 yards, solidifying Montreal’s undefeated home record this season.
In a packed Molson Stadium with 23,035 fans, Jerreth Sterns shined with 124 receiving yards, while Charleston Rambo and Tyler Snead each scored two touchdowns in the Alouettes’ impressive victory. With this win, Montreal secured the top spot in the East Division and looks forward to hosting the Eastern final on Nov. 7.
On the other side, Saskatchewan’s quarterback Travis Harris also crossed the 5,000-yard mark for the second time in his career, but the Roughriders faced their fourth consecutive defeat in a tight playoff race in the West Division.
As the regular season nears its end, Saskatchewan finds itself in a tight spot, tied with Winnipeg and Calgary in the standings. With the playoffs looming, the competition is fierce among the West Division teams, with only four spots available through the CFL’s crossover rule.
The game saw impressive plays from both sides, but ultimately it was Alexander’s masterful performance that stole the spotlight, propelling the Alouettes to victory. Football fans can look forward to another exciting match as the Alouettes and Roughriders go head-to-head again at Regina’s Mosaic Stadium this Saturday.
