The Delta Police Department has confirmed the unfortunate passing of Gwenyth Brigit Dwyn, one of the individuals involved in a tragic incident where a pickup truck collided with four pedestrians during a Truth and Reconciliation walk at Tsawwassen Mills on September 30. This brings the total number of casualties to three, with the other two being First Nation Elders Barb Joe and Virginia Splockton. A memorial has been set up at the site of the collision to honor their memory. Fortunately, the fourth pedestrian who was hospitalized is now recovering at home.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with initial reports suggesting the driver may have experienced a medical episode. However, Delta Police have not yet determined the exact cause of the collision. While there is no evidence to suggest the incident was targeted or ideologically driven, authorities are prepared to pursue charges if new information emerges.
In addition to the current case, the police are looking into a separate collision involving the same truck to understand its movements leading up to the pedestrian accident. Staff Sgt. Mike Whiteley emphasized the importance of a thorough and impartial investigation to provide the community with accurate answers.
If you have any information related to the incident, please contact the Delta Police Department at 604-946-4411 and reference file 26-18401.
