Bishop’s University Snags Former Quebec Liberal Star Charles Milliard for Top Role

After an unsuccessful run at the leadership of the Quebec Liberal Party, businessman Charles Milliard has a new role.

Bishop’s University in Sherbrooke announced Milliard’s appointment as Executive in Residence at the Williams School of Business for the fall term.

Milliard, former CEO of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of Quebec, will have a mandate to connect Bishop’s students and faculty with the business world including by participating in events, lectures and mentorship programs.

Dean of the Williams School of Business, Dr. Margaret Shepherd, says “Having experienced leaders like Charles share their expertise enriches our students’ learning and strengthens our ties to Quebec’s business ecosystem.”

The appointment is honourary and emphasizes Milliard’s expertise. He has experience in the fields of health, economics and politics.

“I am immensely proud to be joining the team at Bishop’s University’s Williams School of Business,” said Milliard, in a press release. “Bishop’s is a small gem of a university, truly one of a kind in Quebec and Canada. I am genuinely delighted to be able to contribute, in my own way, to its profile, and to have the opportunity to teach the next generation of business leaders.”

Milliard says he will discuss “the importance of our entrepreneurial fabric as a driver of our collective prosperity, and our shared ambitions for the Quebec of tomorrow.”

The announcement comes two months after Milliard finished second place in the provincial Liberals’ leadership race, capturing 47.7 per cent of the vote. 

Former federal minister Pablo Rodriguez was elected leader with 52.3 per cent of the vote.
