Authorities Arrest Suspect in Norfolk County Headstone Theft Case

Following a series of disturbing incidents involving stolen headstones in Norfolk County, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have made a significant breakthrough. After receiving reports of bronze headstones being stolen from Bayview Cemetery in Port Rowan and Sacred Heart Cemetery in Langton, OPP intensified their patrols in local cemeteries.

During a routine patrol at Waterford Greenwood Cemetery, an attentive officer spotted an individual behaving suspiciously before quickly leaving the scene in a sedan. Subsequently, the same officer discovered the unoccupied vehicle containing a collection of stolen items, including brass pieces.

The suspect, identified as Douglas Stevens, 39, from Oxford County, was located and apprehended on Thompson Road West in Waterford. Stevens now faces multiple charges, including mischief, possession of stolen property, and theft, all related to the headstone thefts in Norfolk County.

This swift arrest brings a sense of relief to the affected communities and underscores the commitment of law enforcement to combat such reprehensible acts.
