A 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with the assault of a 72-year-old man at the Pie-IX metro station earlier this week.
Montreal police say the teen was arrested Thursday after investigators were able to identify him using evidence collected in the days following the incident. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in youth court on Friday.
The assault happened around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police say a verbal altercation began onboard an STM metro train and escalated when the individuals got off at Pie-IX station – on the green line in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighbourhood.

According to police, the suspect punched the older man in the head on the platform, causing him to fall to the ground. He then fled the scene on foot.
The victim was transported to hospital where he remains in critical condition.
The investigation was led by Montreal’s metro division and supported by other police units and the Société de transport de Montréal (STM).
Police say the STM has increased security presence at the station and continues to cooperate with the investigation. The STM has described the assault as a rare and isolated event.
