“Thrilling Encounter: Orcas Surprise Boaters with a Spectacular Display Off B.C. Coast”

A resident of British Columbia recently had a thrilling encounter with a pod of orcas while out on the waters of Howe Sound. Joshua Lepin and his friends were enjoying a day out on the water near Gambier Island when they were graced by the presence of six or seven orcas swimming towards them.

As the majestic creatures approached, swimmers quickly exited the water to watch as the orcas performed an impressive display. Lepin captured the breathtaking moment on video, showcasing the orcas slapping their fins and tails on the water, with younger members of the pod leaping out of the sea.

Describing the experience as akin to a show at SeaWorld, Lepin and his friends were in awe during the 10-minute encounter. While regulations state that boaters must keep a distance of 400 meters from orcas in Howe Sound, Lepin believes the orcas came closer due to their stationary position with the boat engines turned off.
