Giant Sinkhole Devours Busy Toronto Intersection, Shocks Local Community

A significant sinkhole has emerged at the bustling junction of Coxwell Avenue and Cosburn Avenue, creating havoc and raising safety alarms just before the upcoming school term.

Early on Thursday morning, city crews rushed to the site after receiving reports of a ruptured water main the previous night. As the sun rose, the road gave way completely, forming a massive cavity at the heart of the intersection, triggering an urgent response.

In light of the sinkhole and the ongoing water main repairs, the TTC has altered the route of its 87 Cosburn bus. The temporary detour now navigates through Cosburn Avenue, Woodbine Avenue, O’Connor Drive, Donlands Avenue, and then back to Cosburn Avenue.

Notably, the affected intersection is in close proximity to various schools, such as East York Collegiate Institute, Cosburn Middle School, and East York Alternative Secondary School.

While city officials have not specified a timeline for the repairs, work crews are currently at the site evaluating the extent of the damage and endeavoring to stabilize the area.

Motorists and pedestrians are strongly advised to steer clear of the intersection and adhere to the detour signs in place.
