Two 17-year-old males have been apprehended by Toronto authorities following the tragic shooting of a 19-year-old man at Scarborough Town Centre last week.
The distressing incident unfolded on Aug. 21, at approximately 2 p.m., prompting police to swiftly respond to reports of gunfire at the bustling shopping hub situated at 300 Borough Drive.
The victim, identified as Daniel Amalathas, 19, was discovered with fatal wounds inside the family restroom close to the food court and was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. An associated firearm was also recovered in the vicinity.
Initially regarded as suspicious due to a lack of eyewitnesses and reports of shots fired, law enforcement diligently pursued the case.
On Thursday, Aug. 28, authorities took into custody two 17-year-old individuals from Toronto, both now facing charges of second-degree murder. In accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), their identities remain confidential.
Those in possession of further pertinent details are urged to come forward and aid the ongoing investigation. The incident marked Toronto’s 27th homicide of 2025.
