A former doctor in New York City has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for sexually abusing sedated patients at a hospital and raping unconscious women at his home. Zhi Alan Cheng, who admitted to abusing seven women, including patients under his care, was found guilty of multiple counts of rape and sexual abuse.
Cheng’s criminal activities came to light when a female acquaintance discovered a video of him assaulting her while she was unconscious at his home. Further investigation revealed additional evidence of Cheng’s abusive behavior towards women, with prosecutors also finding liquid anesthesia in his possession.
The victims, most of whom were sedated during the assaults, had no recollection of the abuse they endured. One woman woke up in the midst of an attack after being sedated for a medical procedure at the hospital where Cheng worked.
Following his arrest in 2022, Cheng has been permanently banned from practicing medicine. The hospital where he was employed, New York-Presbyterian Queens, has been cooperative in the criminal investigation.
