A 17-year-old boy in Montreal, who is accused of planning an attack for the Islamic State, has now been charged with assaulting a peace officer. The incident allegedly took place at the RCMP headquarters in Westmount, Quebec, following the teen’s arrest on August 20th. According to Federal prosecutor Marc Cigana, the officer sustained bodily harm.
In addition to the assault charge, the youth, whose identity is protected due to being a minor, is also facing accusations related to providing support for terrorist activities and involvement in terrorist groups. During his court appearance, the teenager was seen in a white dress shirt, accompanied by three security personnel.
Despite his court appearance, the Crown has opposed his release, and the case is scheduled to reconvene on September 12th.
This development sheds light on the serious nature of the charges and the ongoing efforts to address terrorism-related activities within the country.
