Markham Welcomes IndyCar Racing in Major Event Move

The move, revealed by Ontario’s Minister of Sport Neil Lumsden, signifies a multiyear agreement that secures the race in the province. Renamed the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham, this iconic motorsport spectacle is set to captivate audiences in its new home.

The Grand Prix of Toronto, a long-standing fixture on the IndyCar circuit since 1986, will now unfold on an exciting new track layout in Markham’s eastern precinct. Designed by track expert Tony Cotman, the dynamic circuit promises thrilling racing action with its 12-turn, 3.52-kilometre layout and strategic pit lane configuration.
Originally slated for July, the 2026 Ontario Honda Dealers Indy in Markham has rescheduled to take place from August 14-16. With early preparations already underway in collaboration with various partners, Markham is gearing up to host an unforgettable racing weekend that is expected to draw over 140,000 attendees and inject millions into the local economy.
Mayor Frank Scarpitti expressed his enthusiasm for bringing IndyCar racing to Markham, hailing it as a significant addition to the city’s sporting legacy.
