Toronto authorities are investigating a disturbing incident where eggs were hurled at the Yorkville Jewish Centre, sparking concerns over a possible hate crime.
The unsettling event, which took place on August 31, came to light when the centre reported it to the police on September 2. A video captured by security cameras, subsequently shared on Instagram by the centre, depicts a man tossing eggs at the building while shouting offensive remarks.
In a defiant response to the attack, a message accompanying the video asserted the centre’s determination to thrive despite such acts of intimidation. It highlighted the vibrant life within the premises, from prayers to various activities, and vowed to emerge even stronger in the face of adversity.
Toronto Councillor James Pasternak echoed the sentiments of outrage, expressing his deep concern over the incident and condemning the perpetrator’s actions. The surveillance footage, he shared on social media, depicted the individual’s disturbing behavior.
The Toronto police have taken the matter seriously, with the Hate Crime Unit being informed to address the potential hate crime.
