The family of a young man who was shot by a 12-year-old as he watched a Blue Jays game on his phone in his driveway is still grappling with the shocking incident. The victim’s uncle expressed disbelief at the fact that a child could carry out such a brazen attack with a gun.
The incident occurred on August 14 near McCowan Road and 14th Avenue, where the man in his early 30s was found with gunshot wounds to his leg. The police believe it was a targeted attack but have not disclosed a motive.
A 12-year-old boy from Toronto was arrested on September 2 in connection with the shooting, facing charges including attempted murder and unauthorized possession of a firearm. Despite his arrest, the youth was released on bail, which has left the victim’s family feeling angry and worried.
The family is advocating for justice reform, particularly for repeat offenders, expressing frustration at the ease with which individuals can obtain bail even after committing serious crimes. The victim, while expected to physically recover, continues to struggle with the mental trauma from the attack.
