On Saturday morning in Niagara Region, a dramatic incident unfolded as police officers apprehended a 24-year-old driver suspected of impaired driving, resulting in injuries to several officers.
The events began around 9:10 a.m. when officers received a report of a pick-up truck swerving into oncoming traffic on Chantler Road towards Welland. They quickly located the truck parked with the driver’s door open and determined the driver was impaired.
During the arrest attempt, the driver abruptly accelerated, throwing an officer to the ground before fleeing westbound on Sumbler Road. Despite officers deploying spike belts, the vehicle evaded capture and was later spotted on Forks Road heading east.
