Authorities have confirmed that the human remains discovered at a residence in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, last month belong to Jessica Cunningham, who went missing in July.
Cpl. Sukhi Dhesi from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team stated that investigations are ongoing to uncover the circumstances surrounding Cunningham’s death.
The remains were located on Aug. 26 during a police operation at the residence on Gillis Place, where Jessica Cunningham, 43, resided with Mylie Barron.
Barron was swiftly charged with disrespecting human remains the following day.
Although it was disclosed that Barron and Cunningham were romantically involved, authorities have refrained from confirming if her disappearance was linked to intimate partner violence.
Earlier statements from law enforcement indicated suspicions of foul play in Cunningham’s case.
“Investigators are diligently piecing together the events leading to Jessica’s demise,” Dhesi mentioned in a recent update confirming the identity of the remains.
“Our hearts go out to her family, friends, and all who knew her.”
Court documents reveal that Barron is scheduled for a bail hearing at Port Coquitlam court on Sept. 26, with interim bail denied during his previous court appearance.
A publication ban has been enforced on the evidence to be presented at the upcoming hearing.
Barron’s Facebook profile displays a photo of Jessica Cunningham alongside a young individual.
