“Drake’s Unexpected Trip Down Memory Lane on ‘Degrassi’ Shocks Even Him, Reveal Documentary Filmmakers”

Securing Drake’s involvement in a new documentary about “Degrassi” presented its challenges, but the team behind the project, “Degrassi: Whatever It Takes,” persisted and succeeded in getting the rap sensation on board to share his reflections on his time in the beloved TV series.

Before rising to music stardom, Drake, known then as Aubrey Graham, portrayed Jimmy Brooks in “Degrassi: The Next Generation.” The character’s storyline, including being a victim of a school shooting and navigating life in a wheelchair, left a lasting impact on viewers.

Despite initial efforts made a couple of years ago, it wasn’t until June that the filmmakers were able to conduct a significant interview with Drake at his Texas estate for the documentary. “Degrassi: Whatever It Takes” will make its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, offering a comprehensive look at the show’s influence on society.

The documentary, spearheaded by executive producer Carrie Mudd and filmmaker Lisa Rideout, features conversations with former cast members discussing the show’s unique ability to authentically portray the teenage experience.
