Tragic Daycare Disaster in Richmond Hill: Toddler Killed, Six Children Injured as Car Plows Through Facility

A tragic incident occurred at a daycare in Richmond Hill, resulting in the death of a toddler and injuries to multiple children and adults. The vehicle crashed into the First Roots Early Education Academy, causing chaos and concern in the community.

According to authorities in York Region, the vehicle unexpectedly drove into the daycare building located at Yonge Street and Nottingham Drive in the afternoon. Eyewitnesses recounted the shocking moment when the vehicle breached the learning space’s window after coming from the parking lot.

Seven children and three staff members were rushed to the hospital following the crash. Tragically, an 18-month-old toddler lost their life, and another child remains in serious condition. Fortunately, all 96 children present at the facility during the incident have been safely located, and parents have been informed.

A man in his 70s was apprehended at the scene by law enforcement, who have stated that the incident does not appear to have been intentional.

Const. Kevin Nebrija described the scene as chaotic, with the vehicle seemingly crashing through the front window for unknown reasons. One parent, Steven, shared his shock upon receiving a notification from the daycare about his injured 19-month-old daughter. He described her injuries and rushed back to the hospital to comfort her with familiar items.
