A tragic incident unfolded in Burnaby on a Wednesday afternoon, resulting in one fatality due to a shooting.
Emergency services were swiftly summoned to Still Creek Drive near Willingdon Avenue at approximately 5:30 p.m., where they discovered a male victim who had succumbed to his injuries in a parking lot outside a McDonald’s restaurant.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was promptly brought in to delve into the matter and continues to be present at the scene as of Thursday morning.
Shortly after the initial emergency call, the Burnaby RCMP responded to a separate incident involving a vehicle fire near the junction of Nursery Street and Lakefield Drive in South Burnaby.
Authorities have designated the shooting as a “targeted event,” reassuring the public that there are no lingering safety concerns.
