Suspects Charged in Terrifying Carjacking Turned Home Invasion in Bowmanville

A terrifying incident unfolded in Bowmanville when a carjacking turned into a home invasion, leading to charges against two suspects on Wednesday night.

According to Durham police, the harrowing event took place at a residence near Maple Grove Road and Nash Road at approximately 9 p.m.

The victim recounted that the suspects forcibly entered her garage, wielding a knife and demanding her car. In a frantic attempt to escape, she dropped her keys and sought refuge in her home, where her husband also became a target of the suspects.

As the suspects allegedly pursued the victims, they managed to enter their house and lock the door, thwarting the suspects’ attempts to break in.

One suspect fled in the victim’s vehicle before law enforcement could arrive, while the other took off in a separate vehicle that had trailed the victim home. Thanks to the aerial assistance of Durham police, the stolen vehicle was eventually tracked to a parking lot in North York.

In a dramatic turn of events, one of the suspects switched vehicles in the parking lot, only to be apprehended by officers who swiftly blocked the stolen vehicle and made the arrests.

Fortunately, the victims escaped physical harm during the terrifying ordeal.

Muhammad Rahman, 21, from Toronto, and a 16-year-old male, also from Toronto, are now facing multiple charges, including robbery with an offensive weapon, motor vehicle theft, and break and enter. Both suspects are currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
