During an appearance on “Fox & Friends,” U.S. President Donald Trump confidently announced that the suspect involved in the shooting of Charlie Kirk is now in police custody. Trump expressed a high level of certainty about the arrest, stating, “I think with a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody. They’re going to announce it today.”
The president revealed that a pastor who was familiar with the suspect played a crucial role in aiding authorities and facilitating the arrest. This assistance ultimately led to the suspect’s father becoming involved in the situation. Trump recounted, “Somebody that was very close to him said, ‘Hmm, that’s him.’”
Federal investigators recently released photos and a video of the suspected shooter, who is believed to have assassinated Kirk while he was addressing a crowd at Utah Valley University in Orem. Despite the ongoing investigation, the suspect has not been publicly named, and the motive behind the crime remains undisclosed.
Expressing his stance on the matter, Trump mentioned, “I hope he gets the death penalty,” during the interview conducted on Friday. Moreover, law enforcement discovered a Mauser .30-calibre, bolt-action rifle hidden in the woods, complete with a spent cartridge in the chamber and three additional rounds in the magazine.
Officials at the state and federal levels in Utah are preparing for a news conference at 9 a.m. ET to provide updates on the investigation surrounding this tragic incident.
