Toronto Councillor Michael Thompson has been acquitted of charges of sexual assault during a Canada Day weekend event at a Muskoka cottage in 2019.
The Ontario Provincial Police had accused Thompson, who represents Scarborough Centre, in October 2022. He maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings.
Thompson is a prominent figure in Toronto politics with a history of service on various committees and boards. He held key roles such as chair of the economic and community development committee, a member of former mayor John Tory’s executive committee, and one of Tory’s ceremonial deputy mayors.
