British Columbia Premier David Eby is heading to Ottawa to advocate for increased federal investment in key infrastructure projects across the province. The Premier’s Office has announced that Eby will be leading a delegation to Ottawa until Thursday, with a scheduled meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney to discuss priorities for boosting B.C.’s economic development.
Eby’s office has emphasized that the primary goal of the mission is to gather information on the progression of major projects in British Columbia and to secure the necessary funding to push these initiatives forward. Of particular interest are two projects identified by Ottawa for potential expedited approval: the second phase of LNG Canada and the expansion of the Red Chris mine.
With British Columbia facing a significant multi-billion-dollar deficit, projected to hit nearly $11.6 billion by the first quarter of the 2025-2026 fiscal year, Eby stresses the importance of federal support in driving economic growth and job creation in the region. Despite already hosting 40% of the federal government’s nation-building projects, Eby aims to engage in discussions with Ottawa to advocate for additional projects deserving consideration in the upcoming funding allocations.
