Vancouver police have identified one of the victims in a recent triple stabbing incident in the city as the former spouse of the alleged attacker. The victim, 50-year-old Jinfeng Guan, was married to the accused, 54-year-old Viet Quy John Ly, who is currently in police custody facing two counts of second-degree murder.
Tragically, Guan succumbed to her injuries and passed away in the hospital last week, leading to the possibility of an additional murder charge against Ly, which has not yet been filed.
The incident took place on Sept. 5 at a residential building near Joyce Street and Vanness Avenue, where the bodies of two other victims, Jianghui Deng and Chunxiu Yin, were discovered. Guan was found critically injured just a couple of blocks away from the crime scene.
Authorities have informed prosecutors of Guan’s death and are gathering evidence for a potential third murder charge against Ly. The accused has been denied interim bail and is scheduled to appear in court in Vancouver on Sept. 26.
