Police Hunt Suspect in Brazen Monastery Donation Box Theft

Authorities in the Fraser Valley are seeking assistance from the community to identify a suspected thief who was caught on camera stealing from a monastery and an elderly woman in separate incidents.

The Mission RCMP responded to a call at the Little Flower Monastery in Deroche on September 2nd. Surveillance footage captured two individuals, a man and a woman, arriving at the monastery in a grey Pontiac Sunfire. They spent about 15 minutes inside the lobby before the man allegedly took a donation box and concealed it in a plastic bag before leaving.

Security cameras at the monastery caught the man carrying the bagged box as he headed towards the exit. Three days later, the same man is believed to have targeted a seniors’ housing complex in Mission. Under the guise of needing to perform maintenance work, he gained access to an 83-year-old woman’s suite. Upon his departure, the victim discovered that her wallet was missing.

Notably, the woman seen with the suspect at the monastery was not present during the subsequent theft at the housing complex.

Authorities have shared images of the two suspects and are urging anyone with information about their identities to contact the Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161, referencing file number 2025-10979.
