The Toronto Blue Jays are on the brink of clinching a spot in the post-season, with their crucial game set to be broadcast on Sportsnet.
As the Blue Jays aim to secure their first playoff berth in two years this Friday, Sportsnet has partnered with Apple TV to simultaneously air the game on Rogers’ networks.
Sportsnet will feature the pre-game show, Blue Jays Central, at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT, along with the post-game coverage, while also airing Apple TV’s production of the game.
A spokesperson from Rogers expressed excitement for Canadian fans to watch the pivotal game on Sportsnet, emphasizing the collaboration between the Blue Jays, Major League Baseball, and Apple TV.
The Blue Jays and Sportsnet recognized the opportunity for the upcoming game to potentially seal their post-season spot, leading them to engage MLB in discussions with the streaming platform.
Following negotiations, Apple TV secured exclusive broadcast rights for next Friday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays as part of the agreement.
The Blue Jays’ path to clinching a playoff spot on Friday is uncertain as they kick off a series against the Kansas City Royals. With Toronto’s magic number for a playoff spot at three, a win combined with a Cleveland Guardians loss on Thursday could see them through.
However, if only one of those results occurs, the Blue Jays would need to win on Friday along with a Guardians loss to secure their place in the post-season.
Should the Blue Jays lose and the Guardians win on Thursday, the celebration would be postponed until at least Saturday, adding more suspense to the outcome.
