A reported armed carjacking in Caledon turned out to be a staged incident, leading to fraud and public mischief charges against five individuals, including a 17-year-old. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the call on Sept. 9 but discovered through investigation that the carjacking was fabricated as part of a fraudulent scheme.
The accused individuals, hailing from Brampton and Caledon, were arrested following the revelation. Among them, a 17-year-old from Brampton faces fraud charges over $5,000, while 22-year-old Apkarn Singh and 21-year-old Lakshay Sharma are also charged with fraud over $5,000. Additionally, 21-year-old Sehajpreet Sandhu and 21-year-old Gurkarn Singh face charges of public mischief, fraud over $5,000, and obstructing a peace officer.
All five defendants are set to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in the future.
