Peel Region Police have apprehended a 42-year-old man from Brampton, known for his reckless driving habits, on charges related to 11 driving offenses.
According to authorities, the man, identified as Mitchel Wheeler, was stopped during a routine traffic check at the intersection of Mississauga Road and Bovaird Drive West last month. It was discovered that Wheeler was driving with a suspended license, and he was prohibited from being behind the wheel.
Wheeler is now facing nine charges of driving while prohibited and two charges of driving with a suspended license.
In a statement released over the weekend, the police highlighted Wheeler’s troubling history of risky driving spanning several years. The release emphasized that Wheeler’s repeated violations, including past convictions for driving under the influence, fleeing from law enforcement, and leaving accident scenes without stopping, pose a serious threat to public safety. Authorities noted that Wheeler’s dangerous behavior seemed to only pause during periods of incarceration.
As a consequence of his recent arrest, Wheeler’s vehicle has been seized and impounded for a period of 45 days.
