Authorities in Durham have announced that a man from Oshawa is now facing legal repercussions for recklessly driving through the premises of a local high school and allegedly endangering students before fleeing the scene.
The concerning incident unfolded at G.L. Roberts Collegiate Vocational Institute (CVI) around 3:40 p.m. on Sept. 19. Reports indicate that the individual in question was observed speeding across the school’s parking lot and sports field, seemingly targeting students present on the grounds during the episode. Following this alarming display, the driver proceeded onto a nearby waterfront walking trail before making his escape.
Upon arriving at the scene following the distress call, law enforcement discovered remnants of the vehicle near the trail, prompting further investigation.
Subsequent inquiries revealed that the suspect was actually a parent of a student enrolled at the school. Allegations suggest that he drove onto the school premises upon learning of an altercation involving his child and other students earlier in the day.
The individual was apprehended at his residence without resistance, and fortunately, no physical harm was reported as a result of the incident.
While the identity of the man has been withheld to safeguard the student’s privacy, he now faces charges of dangerous operation of a vehicle and assault with a weapon. Following legal proceedings, he has been released on an undertaking.
Authorities in Durham are urging anyone with relevant information or video recordings of the event to come forward and assist in their ongoing investigation.
