Montreal-Area Police Fatally Shoot Teen Without Finding Weapon, Watchdog Reports

The Quebec police watchdog reported that items seized after the fatal shooting of a teenager in Longueuil included a baseball bat, backpack, and ski masks. However, no sharp weapons were found, and the only firearm retrieved belonged to the officer involved in the shooting. The victim, believed to be a 15-year-old student according to witnesses and school authorities, was killed on Montreal’s South Shore on Sunday. The incident occurred following a report of armed individuals in a quiet neighborhood. The watchdog, Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes, is analyzing seven videos and conducting interviews with witnesses, although not all present at the scene have been spoken to. The officer’s firearm has been sent for ballistics analysis, and police are cooperating with the investigation.
