Ontario authorities are seeking witnesses following a concerning incident on Highway 401 in Cambridge early Wednesday. A man, while changing a flat tire on the highway, was struck by a passing vehicle. The man had pulled over on the eastbound lanes near Hespeler Road around 12:30 a.m. when the accident occurred.
Sgt. Kerry Schmidt of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stated that the man, after stopping on the sixth lane of the highway, was hit by a passing vehicle that failed to stop. The impact resulted in the man sustaining serious injuries and being thrown to the ground, although he is expected to recover fully.
Describing the incident as “very scary,” Schmidt emphasized the dangers of being on a live highway lane in the dark and being struck by a passing vehicle. The OPP is urging the driver of the vehicle that hit the man to come forward for questioning.
Schmidt stressed the importance of preventing such incidents in the future and called for anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area at the time to contact the Cambridge OPP detachment. The authorities aim to gather all necessary details to ensure the safety of everyone on the roads.
