OMNI News team members from the Filipino Edition have received a prestigious nomination for the 2025 Jack Webster Award. Arvin Joaquin, Rhea Santos, Theresa Barrera, and Pat Fernandez are recognized for their outstanding multilingual journalism in reporting on the aftermath of the Lapu-Lapu Day Block Party attack that shook Vancouver.

Their series of reports, titled “A Day After the Lapu-Lapu Day Tragedy in B.C.,” delved into the impacts of the street party attack and provided a platform for Filipino voices to be heard. Airing on April 27, 2025, on OMNI Television, the coverage not only presented crucial information but also captured the emotional resonance of a community deeply affected by the tragic event.

The Jack Webster Foundation, responsible for the nominations, highlighted the journalistic excellence showcased by the OMNI News team. Chosen by an independent jury, the finalists, including Rob Abel, Kristin Johnson, Justin Borges, and Hector Docto, are set to be recognized for their contributions to reporting on important community issues.

OMNI Television, a sister station of CityNews, stands out for its commitment to diverse and inclusive journalism. The Jack Webster Award, celebrating outstanding achievements in British Columbia journalism, will reveal its winners at a prestigious event scheduled for November 3.
