“64-Year-Old Durham Region Man Arrested and Charged with the Alleged Murder of His Wife”

A tragic incident unfolded in Durham Region when authorities charged a man for the murder of his wife in what is being classified as a case of “intimate partner violence.”

The disturbing event took place last week in Newcastle, Clarington, when the police responded to a call regarding “unknown trouble” near Farrow Avenue and Highway 2 at 9:10 a.m. Upon arrival on September 16, officers found a woman who had suffered severe trauma and was declared deceased at the scene.

The investigation was taken over by the Homicide Unit, which identified the victim as 62-year-old Marilyn Stevens from Newcastle. While the exact cause of her death has not been disclosed, authorities arrested her husband, 64-year-old Scott Stevens, on Saturday. He faces a charge of first-degree murder and was held for a bail hearing.

Intimate partner violence, encompassing various forms of abuse such as physical, emotional, financial, and psychological, is a serious issue that transcends boundaries of age, gender, race, and socioeconomic status, as emphasized by Durham police.

The tragic incident underscores the critical need for communities to unite in supporting victims of domestic violence and actively strive to cultivate safer environments for all individuals.
