Irish police in Dublin are investigating an early morning incident involving Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Skylar Thompson, though no formal complaint has been filed. Reports suggest that Thompson may have been involved in a robbery, but this has not been confirmed by authorities or the team.
According to the Irish Independent, a group of individuals reportedly assaulted Thompson near the Temple Bar area and stole his phone. However, the police have not provided details regarding the alleged assault.
Authorities were alerted when a distressed male in his 20s, believed to be Thompson, required medical assistance on Dame Street early Saturday. He received treatment at the scene from emergency services personnel.
Thompson, who is currently on injured reserve, did not participate in the Steelers’ game against the Minnesota Vikings in Ireland. The team has acknowledged the situation but refrained from commenting further as they collaborate with NFL security to gather more information.
Thompson’s Instagram account has been set to private, and the NFL and NFL Players Association are also investigating the incident to ensure the player’s well-being.
