“Fraud Rampage in Scarborough: Duo Slapped with 87 Charges After Extensive Investigation”

Two men from Ajax are facing a total of 87 charges related to a fraud and theft investigation in Scarborough.

On September 26, authorities responded to a disturbance at the intersection of Warden Avenue and Ellesmere Road after receiving reports of a reckless driver.

According to reports, the suspects posed as a food delivery worker and customer in their scheme. They approached a victim in a parking lot, claiming they needed assistance purchasing a pizza because their debit card was malfunctioning.

The alleged scammers then offered money to the victim in exchange for using their credit card to buy the pizza. One of the men provided a stolen point-of-sale device for the transaction, while the other swapped the victim’s credit card for a different one.

Authorities reported that the suspects, who were driving a stolen Honda Civic, attempted to escape while disguised but were apprehended by law enforcement. The vehicle they were using had counterfeit license plates.

Jamal Raja, 21, and Joshua Mawaka, 18, both residents of Ajax, were arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

Raja faces multiple charges, while Mawaka is also accused of various offenses.

Both suspects were scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre. Investigators suspect there may be additional victims and urge anyone with information to come forward.
