BREAKING: Suspect Arrested in Chilling Murder of 43-Year-Old Woman in Saint-Jérôme

A man, aged 45, was charged with the planned murder of Gabie Renaud, aged 43, whose body was discovered in her Saint-Jérôme apartment three weeks after her passing. Jonathan Blanchet is facing this charge, which authorities believe stems from domestic violence resulting in femicide.

“Blanchet is currently in custody,” stated Patricia Johnson, spokesperson for the Directeur des poursuites criminelles et pénales (DPCP), in an email to CityNews. His appearance in court occurred yesterday, with the bail hearing being rescheduled for Nov. 7.

Reports from Radio-Canada revealed that Blanchet participated in the court session via video from his hospital bed, having been hospitalized following a suicide attempt.

It is alleged that Renaud was killed on or around Sept. 7 and subsequently discovered in her residence on Jean-Paul-Riopelle Street in Saint-Jérôme last Friday.

Blanchet’s criminal history includes around 30 arrests, six convictions for domestic violence, and a recent three-year prison term in 2020.
