Today marks the beginning of a trial for a former employee of a Quebec utility company, accused of economic espionage in favor of China. Yuesheng Wang faces charges under Canada’s Security of Information Act, as well as additional charges under the Criminal Code for computer fraud and breaching trust. The case began with an investigation by the RCMP’s national security enforcement team following a complaint from Hydro-Québec. Wang was later implicated in preparing acts for a foreign entity, the People’s Republic of China. Despite his claims that the information he shared was not secret, Wang asserts his innocence and is determined to clear his name in Canada.
