“Alcohol-Fueled E-Scooter Crash Leaves Oshawa Man in Critical Condition”

A man, aged 58, is fighting for his life after his electric scooter crashed into a vehicle in Oshawa on Sunday evening.

According to Durham Regional Police, the incident occurred at the intersection of Albert Street and Athol Street East around 7:15 p.m. The e-scooter, heading east on Athol, collided with a car making a right turn from Albert.

The injured rider was swiftly transported to a trauma center in Toronto with severe injuries and remains in critical condition.

Law enforcement officers from the DRPS are actively investigating the crash. While alcohol is suspected to have played a role, a comprehensive inquiry is still ongoing.

Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the accident or possesses footage from a cellphone, dash cam, or surveillance camera to get in touch with Durham police.

This incident in Oshawa adds to growing concerns about the safety of electric scooters in the Greater Toronto Area. Recent accidents, including two children hospitalized from separate e-scooter crashes in Toronto, have reignited discussions about the necessity for stricter regulations regarding these devices.
