A 77-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle on Monday morning at the busy intersection of René-Lévesque Blvd. and Atwater in Montreal.
According to Montreal police (SPVM), the incident occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. as a driver was turning right from René-Lévesque Blvd. onto Atwater St.
Eyewitnesses reported that a passerby flagged down the driver, who was unaware of the collision, to alert them that the woman was trapped beneath the vehicle.
The victim was swiftly transported to the hospital in critical condition, undergoing emergency surgery to address severe injuries, as stated by Raphaël Bergeron, a spokesperson for the Montreal police.
The SPVM’s collision investigation unit was promptly dispatched to the scene to conduct a thorough inquiry. Preliminary assessments by authorities indicate that the incident was likely accidental.
It is believed that the driver may not have seen the woman, possibly due to a blind spot, though the issue of right of way remains uncertain.
