SAQ Employees Gear Up for Strike: Technical and Professional Staff Vote Overwhelmingly in Favor

Office, technical, and professional staff members of the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) have approved a strike mandate after being without a collective agreement since March.

Around 500 employees of this Crown corporation, who are represented by the Syndicat du personnel technique et professionnel de la SAQ (SPTP–SAQ–CSN), have been given the green light for 15 strike days to be utilized when necessary.

During a general meeting on Tuesday, the union reported that an overwhelming 99 percent of members voted in favor of the strike.

SPTP–SAQ–CSN president Steve D’Agostino expressed his patience in getting to this point and remains optimistic about the possibility of both parties reaching a mutual agreement to prevent a strike.

If a strike were to occur, it would mark the first in the union’s history of over 50 years.

The SAQ’s office, technical, and professional staff play essential roles in the functioning of SAQ.com’s transactional site, store supplies, quality control, and payroll.
