Authorities in Durham have announced that two men are facing charges related to a roofing scam that took place in Ajax.
According to police reports, the incident unfolded in the vicinity of Clements Road West and Monarch Avenue following reports of fraudulent activities.
The victim in question engaged with a roofing company named ‘Toronto’s Choice Home Improvement,’ which led to an appointment being set for roof repairs at their residence.
The suspects initially quoted a price of $18,000 for the necessary work, which the victim paid. However, they later claimed additional repairs amounting to $50,000. Allegedly, the suspects insisted on receiving the remaining balance, asserting that the work had been completed.
Subsequently, upon involving a claims adjuster, it was determined that the costs did not align with the actual repairs conducted on the roof, raising suspicions of fraudulent practices.
Authorities have labeled the company associated with the suspects, ‘Toronto’s Choice Home Improvement,’ as illegitimate.
In connection to the case, Shane O’Driscoll, 24, from Ireland, and James O’Driscoll, 28, from Great Britain, have been charged with fraud exceeding $5000. The two individuals are currently awaiting a bail hearing.
Investigators have also pointed out the possibility of additional victims who may have fallen prey to similar schemes.
