“20 B.C. Ministries Paralyzed as Public Sector Union Declares Full Strike!”

Workers at all of British Columbia’s remaining adult correctional facilities have gone on strike, adding to the ongoing strike by public sector workers now in its seventh week.

According to the BC General Employees’ Union, a total of 20 ministries and government services are now “fully struck,” with nearly 25,000 workers participating in the job action.

In a statement on Friday, Union President Paul Finch emphasized that the decision to escalate the strike was a serious one. Finch stated, “The government holds the key to resolving this situation. Our willingness to negotiate has not wavered, but progress has been hindered by the government’s lack of urgency and meaningful involvement.”

The union has indicated that further disruptions are likely in the coming days.

While the BCGEU is maintaining essential service levels as required by law, they have issued a warning that additional escalation could occur if the government continues to delay reaching a fair agreement.

CityNews has contacted the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General for further details on which correctional services will be impacted by the strike.
