“Over 4,500 Quebec Candidates Win Elections Unopposed, Highlighting Unchallenged Power in Municipal Politics”

Over 4,500 municipal candidates in Quebec secured victory without facing any opposition in the recent elections. The nomination period for the provincial municipal elections, covering around 1,100 municipalities, closed on October 3.

Out of the 4,560 successful candidates, 564 contended for the position of mayor while 3,996 vied for councilor roles, as per the latest data from the Quebec Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. Additionally, six individuals were elected unopposed as prefects of their regional county municipality.

In the previous year, a total of 4,974 candidates were elected unopposed, consisting of 615 mayors, 4,355 councilors, and 4 prefects.
