An Investigation Launched as Resident Feeds Bears in Chilliwack, Leading to Tragic Outcome
Authorities are looking into a Chilliwack resident who was caught hand-feeding a mother bear and her two cubs in a residential area, resulting in the euthanization of the mother bear.
The Conservation Officer Service (COS) expressed grave concerns over the incident, stating that feeding dangerous wildlife like bears poses a significant threat to public safety. By feeding wild animals, humans disrupt their natural behavior and risk habituating them to people as a food source.
Due to the irresponsible feeding actions, the mother bear had to be put down. However, the two cubs have been rescued and taken to a rehabilitation center, where they will be prepared for relocation in the upcoming spring season.
The COS emphasizes the importance of refraining from feeding wild animals and urges the community to respect wildlife by allowing them to forage for their natural nutrients.
