Following maintenance workers, now STM bus drivers and metro operators are contemplating strike action.
The local branch of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) connected with the FTQ, representing these workers, recently erected billboards signaling an imminent strike at the Société de transport de Montréal.
Although the union clarified that no strike notice has been issued yet and no specific strike date has been set when reached for comment, tensions are escalating between the union and the transit company. Notably, this union, historically known for its restraint, has refrained from striking for almost four decades.
With 4,500 members, including bus drivers and metro operators, the CUPE local holds significant influence at the STM due to its pivotal role in operating buses and the metro system.
