Authorities have apprehended four individuals in connection with a jewelry store heist that occurred at Upper Canada Mall during the late hours of Tuesday. A fifth suspect is currently at large following the incident, which unfolded in Newmarket and prompted a response from York police shortly before 5:30 p.m.
According to reports, the group of five assailants invaded the jewelry store and deployed pepper spray, causing harm to at least two individuals. The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of valuable merchandise, as affirmed by law enforcement.
Law enforcement officers managed to track the suspects’ vehicle to Highway 404 and Steeles Avenue, successfully surrounding it with multiple police vehicles to prevent their escape. While four suspects were swiftly apprehended, one individual managed to evade capture and is currently being pursued.
Authorities have not released a detailed description of the fugitive suspect at this time.
